“Joy Clark’s a genuine bad ass. My Louisiana home girl is the real deal, a triple threat, an incredible singer, writer and player…and her new record Tell it to the Wind is a must listen.” – Mary Gauthier
Today, acclaimed New Orleans singer/songwriter/guitarist Joy Clark releases her debut album, Tell it to the Wind, on Righteous Babe Records. A proud, queer, Black woman, Tell it to the Wind is both a declaration of her independence and a love letter to the traditions that shaped her. Listen to Tell it to the Wind HERE, along with the upbeat, funk-infused focus track “Shine.”
Clark’s songcraft, paired with sophisticated progressions, and themes of freedom, love and self-acceptance gained her notice on the national folk and Americana scene. She caught the attention of Grammy-winner Allison Russell and was offered a regular spot in her backing band The Rainbow Coalition, earning her the chance to jam with superstars Brandi Carlile and the Indigo Girls. Talking to The Tennessean, Russell described Joy as a “a brilliant artist, writer and singer."
With this impressive debut, Joy Clark firmly establishes her presence and impact within the broader Americana community. She has performed on some of the most prestigious stages in the world, including the Ryman in Nashville, Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and the celebrated New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Indie icon and Righteous Babe founder Ani DiFranco shares, “Joy shines out as a singer and player and our shared community of New Orleans. We are proud to share this most tender new music from her and more to come.”
