On “Myself Again,” Gracie and Rachel work to find resolution in the turmoil as they
harmonize, “I’m taking care of myself again.” For Rachel, it marks a reemergence from the wreckage of heartbreak; for Gracie, it is the quiet defiance of preserving identity as love shifts and redefines itself. Together, their voices carve two distinct paths back to the self, illuminating the album’s core truth: transformation is forged in the solitude of standing alone.
Themes of independence and togetherness echo throughout If We Could, Would We,
resulting in Gracie and Rachel’s most personal effort to date. The album also reflects on the decisions we make and those we don’t. The title, If We Could, Would We is the
question underneath every song on this record. Gracie and Rachel share, “It carries this mix of wonder, regret, and longing, of wondering what might happen if we actually let ourselves step into a different kind of partnership, leave something that’s no longer working, or say the thing we’re afraid to say…”
To push their innovative brand of elevated pop to new heights, they brought in producer Benjamin Lazar Davis (Okkervil River, Maya Hawke) to enhance their songs sonically and emotionally. The album unfolds with expanded textures: Rachel takes up the guitar for the first time on record, weaving layers of sound, while the songwriting splits between four solo tracks each and four co-written pieces, capturing the duo at their most exposed, and alive.
If We Could, Would We is the most recent effort from Gracie and Rachel, whose 2017 self-titled debut earned strong critical praise. Over the years they released additional albums in 2020 and 2023, earning more raves from NPR (All Songs Considered, Tiny Desk Concerts) and outlets like American Songwriter, Flaunt, and Paste Magazine, and shared stages with everyone from Ani DiFranco to Tori Amos, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus. Their 2025 single “WTF” earned acclaim from The Line of Best Fit, which wrote that “Gracie and Rachel deliver folk-pop for the future on ‘WTF,’” while Rolling Stone named it a “Song You Need to Know.”
After performing at SXSW in Austin, TX and an opening slot with Marissa Nadler, Gracie and Rachel will headline shows in June and July. Dates are below and on their website
