What’s more important- to be able to pen intelligent, memorable songs or to deliver a captivating live performance? For Greg Brown, this question is moot. In addition to being a touring partner of Ani DiFranco’s, Greg has been a perennial presence at the Kate Wolf Music Festival, mesmerizing audiences with both his songwriting craftwork and his delivery. Now he has gathered live tracks from his 1997-2003 appearances at the festival to create the double-disc In the Hills of California.

Coupled with the tastefully expressive Nina Gerber on guitar, Greg carries you through sorrowful narratives, chugging country blues, and humorous tales. Highlights include his warm duet with Shawn Colvin on the calmly rolling “Say A Little Prayer,” as well as a 1997 recording of “Kate’s Guitar,” just one day after its completion – it’s a rare treat to receive a glimpse at art when it’s still so fresh for the artist.

Proceeds from the sale of In the Hills of California go to the Jugalbandi Project, which is a project to promote music and the arts in schools.
